  • It decomposes into water, nitrogen dioxide, and oxygen. Neutralization with ammonia to form ammonium nitrate, making of fertilizers, nitration of glycerol and toluene, forming the explosives nitroglycerin and TNT, preparation of nitrocellulose, and oxidation of metals to the corresponding oxides or nitrates.
