VIETNAMIZATION

  • SALT II led a treaty the U.S. Didnt ratify
  • The U.S. withdrew from SALT II in 1986 due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan

  • First president to go to china in the last 25 years
  • Created a vast shift in Cold War balance
  • Nixon claimed it was the week that changed the world
  • Improved relations with China and the Soviet Union

WATERGATE SCANDAL

  • 5 men for arrested for breaking into the DNC headquarters at the Watergate complex
  • The FBI connected cash found on the burglars to a slush fund used by the CRP
  • It was revealed that President Nixon had a tape-recording system in his offices
  • Facing near impeachment, Nixon resigned in 1974
