FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

  • Facial expressions can show people how you are feeling despite what you say
  • Ex: someone telling a friend that they are fine while they have a sad depressed face shoes that they aren't actually fine.

GESTURES

  • Gestures help show your emotions through movements
  • Ex: When someone is frustrated or is in a argument, they might move their arms and hands in a violent or vigorous way.

Paralinguistics

  • Emphasizes tone or pitch when communicating to convey emotion.
  • Ex: A father yells at his son to come inside to show that he is irritated and what's his son inside urgently.

BODY LANGUAGE

  • Shows how someone is feeling in posture, movements, and stature.
  • Ex: a boy in class is resting his head on the table while a teacher is talking shows that he is tired, bored, and uninterested.

EYE CONTACT

  • Shows confidence, respect, and interest when communicating.
  • Ex: Making eye contact while at a job interview shows professionalism.

APPEARANCE

  • Displays your character and shows organization/professionalism.
  • Ex: Getting dressed up for a first date shows that you are interested in the other person and that you would like to look good for them.

HAPTICS

  • This is any form of communication involving touch.
  • Ex: If you are mad at someone and hit them rather than telling them that you are mad, gets the message across as well.

PROXEMICS

  • 0-2 ft apart while talking is personal, 4-12ft is social, and anything above that is public.
  • A couple would be within 0-2ft apart from one another while talking because they are on a personal level.
