NONINFECTIOUS AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES

NONINFECTIOUS DISEASES

DISEASES THAT DO NOT SPREAD FROM ONE ORGANISM TO ANOTHER.

Diabetes
This is a Noninfectious disease that occurs when your cells become resistant to the action of insulin, and your pancreas is unable to make enough insulin to overcome this resistance. Instead of moving into your cells where it's needed for energy, sugar builds up in your bloodstream. A cure has not been found for diabetes, but there are many ways to treat and monitor it such as: Healthy eating, Regular exercise, Possibly diabetes medication or insulin therapy, and Blood sugar monitoring.

Aids
Aids is the final stage of the HIV disease. You can obtain this disease by coming in contact with a persons blood that is infected with the HIV/AIDS virus. During this disease the body's resistance to infection is lowered causing severe damage to the immune system. There are currently no cure for aids, but there are treatments. Drug treatments help reduce the HIV virus in your body, and keep your immune system as healthy as possible.

Asthma
This is a noninfectious disease that causes the airways of the lungs to swell and narrow, leading to wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. It can be caused by many different things such as Airborne allergens, respiratory infections, physical activity (exercise-induced asthma), or cold air.
Asthma is not curable but, can be treated with inhalers.

PARKINSON'S DISEASE
This disease is Noninfectious and the cause of it is unknown. Many scientist believe it is inherited. Parkinson's disease occurs when neurons (nerve cells) in a part of the brain called the substantia nigra begin to deteriorate causing choppy/unbalanced muscle movements. This disease can treated with a drug called Levodopa (the most commonly prescribed and most effective drug for controlling the symptoms of Parkinson's disease).

INFECTIOUS DISEASES

DISEASES THAT CAN BE SPREAD FROM ORGANISM TO ORGANISM

SKIN CANCER
This is a noninfectious disease and can be cured through surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. Skin cancer occurs when the skin is damaged causing a genetic defect that leads to skin cells rapidly multiplying.

COLD
This disease is infectious. It can be caused by over 100 types of viruses. The common cold is referred to as a viral upper respiratory tract infection. It usually causes a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. This disease is most commonly viral and cannot be cured, but will eventually leave "run it's course" and end. There are different over the counter drugs that can be used to treat any symptoms.

Flu
The flu is an infection of the nose, throat, and lungs. It is caused by influenza virus types A, B, and C cause the flu. Since this is a virus you must just let it run its course. There is no immediate cure, but over the counter drugs can be bought to help with symptoms. Some of the symptoms of this virus can be a cough and/or sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, headaches and/or body aches, chills, fatigue,
nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children).

ATHLETES FOOT
Athlete's foot is an infection of the feet caused by fungus. It can be treated and cured by creams applied to the outer surface.

Strep Throat
Strep throat occurs when strep organisms suddenly start spewing out toxins and inflammatory substances to bring on a sore throat and other symptoms. These strep organisms can be activated be a small cold or cough. Strep can be cured easily using antibiotics.
