PRESENTATION OUTLINE

NORTH KOREA VS FAHRENHEIT 451

BY ANDREW TAO

GOVERNEMENT

  • The government in North Korea is similar to the one in Fahrenheit 451
  • Both control what the people are allowed to do and what they aren't
  • Both totalalitarian
  • Believed that their government has made them happy

GOVERNMENT QUOTE

  • "If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a
  • question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none.
  • Let him forget there is such a thing as war." page 61

SOCIETY

  • In both Farhenheit 451 and North Korea
  • Both of the people in them are only allowed to do
  • What the government allows and disallows them to do

SOCIETY QUOTE

  • The sun burnt every day. It burnt Time . . . Time was busy burning the years and the people anyway,
  • without any help from him. So if he burnt things with the firemen and the sun burnt Time, !
  • that meant that everything burnt

CONTROL

  • The government controls everything in both societies including books
  • Also, the government controls what the people are allowed to believe in
  • “Any man’s insane who thinks he can fool the government and us.”

CONFORMITY

  • Conformity happens in both North Korea and Fahrenheit 451
  • Both people in the societies conform to their governments
  • “Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman, Friday Faulkner,
  • burn em to ashes, then burn the ashes. That’s our official slogan.”

PROPAGANDA

  • The government lies to the citizens to mislead them and lead them
  • To believe in lies that they both feed them in both North Korea and 451
  • "Rule 1. Answer the alarm swiftly. 2. Start the fire swiftly.
  • 3. Burn everything. 4. Report back to firehouse immediately. 5. Stand alert for other alarms"
  • This quote relates because the government fools them into burning books

REBELLION

  • Montag and citizens of NK both rebelled and changed
  • What was happening in both of their societies
  • "We depend on you. I don’t think you realize how important
  • you are, we are, to our happy world as it stands now."
