  • On April 24, 1863, congress passed the toughest tax law ever seen in the south
  • Rates were increased , an income tax was authorized, and a profit was
  • Imposed in farm products

THE ARMY OF THE CONFEDERACY VS UNION (MILLION)

ADVANTANGES IN THE UNION

  • There was a much larger land area with a lot more people to fight
  • The north had an enormous industrial advantage
  • Since the north had power over the navy, the seas were controlled by the union
  • During the war in 1860, the north crated more than 90% of nearly everything

ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES IN THE CONFEDERACY

  • There was not even one rifle work in all of the south
  • However the south could produce an food it needed to
  • Their greatest strength was being able to fight on their own land
  • They were able to then harass the northerners with their land

SOLDIERS(UNION)

  • They had regular supplies of food, equipment, ammunition, and clothing
  • The also had better access to technological developments so they had better weapons
  • Such as, repeated rifling,Gatling guns, and different types of canons

THE ARMY(CONFEDERATES)

  • They did not have such a good supply system because the were more agricultural
  • The quite often used the muskets the brought from home.
  • The confederacys army had great leadership.
  • And for a period of time won many battles because of it.

GEOGRAPHY(NORTH)

  • Natural features are the coastline with the bays, and harbors
  • And also is the inland with the rocky soil which was good for farming

  • The climate was mild winters, and long, hot, and humid summers
  • The coastlines was full of swamps, and marshes (good for fishing,rice, and sugarcane)
  • Inland: indigo, tobacco, and corn was cropped
  • The towns would follow the rivers inland

ECONOMY(NORTH)

  • There were bigger cities which meant more factories
  • The industrial revolution hit which made products faster and cheaper
  • The economy went up a lot!

  • It was all about farming and slaves.
  • The southerners made their only profit off of the land they farmed
  • Cotton made salver more important
  • Cotton spread west so salver increased
