NUCLEAR MEDICINE HOW IT WORKS,WHY PEOPLE USE IT

BY CASEY SPENCER

WHAT IS NUCLEAR MEDICINE/IMAGING?

  • The use of radioactive substances to get images of the body
  • and treat diseases that are found.
  • Lots of people are using this form of scanning.

Why it's helpful?
Useful to find
Tumors
Blood cell disorders
Function of organs
Aneurysms

How it's different
Small amounts of radioactive substances is injected into the body and highlights a specific organ or tissue then the function is tested while in the scan

People are using this form of radiology because it allows physicians to treat diseases earlier and more accurately

It is one of the safest diagnostic imaging available patients only receive a small amount of the substance, the amount of radiation is less than an x-Ray

It is very beneficial to patients since most testing only shows the structure of the body but this scan also shows the function

What makes it so advanced is the extreme sensitivity to abnormalities in function than any other form of testing and it's becoming more common to use this

More and more people are using nuclear scans to treat and find prevention of cancer since it is painless

Overall, nuclear medicine is safe and can detect early signs of diseases and infections and end up saving someone's life
