What is the Nuremburg Code?

Answer

  • A set of research ethics/principles for human experimentation
  • Set as a result of the Subsequent Nuremberg Trials at the end of WW2
  • The Subsequent Nuremberg Trials were a series of military court cases
  • These trials were held against surviving members of the Nazis
  • Held in the in Nuremberg at the Palace of Justice from 1946-49

Why was it established?

  • Word got out of the terrible experiments Nazi doctors would perform
  • Judges in court wanted to insure this would never happen again
  • After hearing all the military court cases, the Nuremberg code was created
  • First code: no one could be subject to experimentation without consent
  • Without the Nuremberg codes, we wouldn't have set rules/regulations.

HiV vaccine trials

  • HIV Vaccine Trials are a network of experimental vaccines to prevent AIDS
  • The Nuremberg code can relate in many ways
  • The Nuremberg code gives people the freedom of consent for the experiments
  • If a person believes the trials are too dangerous, they can partake or not
  • The Nuremberg code gives them the right to choose to partake

How close are we to having an HIV Vaccine

  • There have been and still are many attempts at making HIV Vaccines
  • The HIV Vaccine Trials are a part of those attempts
  • Even after all the trials, there still isn't an effective vaccine
  • Even though there's no vaccine we are still closer everyday
  • This disease is difficult to fight because its immunities.
