SNOW SHOES

  • Traditional snowshoes have a hardwood frame with rawhide lacings
  • Many modern snowshoes are mostly made of materials such as lightweight metal, hard plastic, synthetic fabric and seem to be a bit more affective

SNOW SHOES

  • Many hikers use snowshoes today.
  • Snowshoes distribute a persons weight so they don't sink into otherwise deep snow.

MOCCASINS

  • A lot of people like wearing moccasins today.
  • Original moccasins were usually made out of deer hide, buffalo hide and elk hide.

3 SISTERS FARMING

  • Three sisters agriculture is a system were they plant winter squash, corn and beans and a mound.

  • The 3 crops that are planted in the mound benefit each other. The beans take nitrogen out of the air and puts it in the ground for the corn and the squash, causing the plants to thrive.
  • A lot of gardeners use this tactic today for producing their own food.

MOSQUITO REPELLENT

  • The Ojibwe knew that the berries that they soaked their faces with repelled mosquitoes, therefore creating the first repellent.

FACE PAINT

  • The Ojibwe is responsible for creating the first face paint that made them blend in with their surroundings while hunting their prey.

  • Hunters today use face paint know for the same reason as the Ojibwe did.
