ODYSSEUS JOUNREY

Cicones
Odysseus and his men raided the city of Cicones, killed their men and enslaved their women. When the other Cicones heard of this, they attached Odysseus and his men. The Cicones were larger and stronger than Odysseus and his men.

The Lotus Eaters
The Lotus Eaters give Odysseus' men lotus to eat. It made Odysseus' men forget their families and they wanted to stay on the island. Odysseus has to drag them back to the ship and tie them down, and make them row away.

The Cyclops
Odysseus and his men found an empty cave and decided to eat the food and drink the wine in it. They soon found the food and wine belonged to Polyphemus. He locked them in the cave and began to eat them. Odysseus and his men blinded Polyphemus and escaped by hiding under sheep.

Island of Aeolus
Aeolus,God of the Winds, gives Odysseus a bag of bad Winds to help him get home safely. His crew disobey orders and open the bag.

Laestrygonians
The Laesrygonians were powerful cannibal giants. Odysseus sees The Laestrygonians eating his men so he and his men tried to leave. The Laesrygonians start throwing rocks and boulders and sink all of the boats but Odysseus' boat.

Island of Circe
Circe turns Odysseus' men to swine, but Odysseus is protected from her magic with the help of Hermes, who gave him a magical herb called Moly. Odysseus ends up staying there for what seems like a short time, but ended up being a couple years. Before Odysseus departs, Circe finally tells him that he needs to find the blind prophet Teiresias in the Underworld.

The Land Of The Dead
Odysseus and his men talk to the spirit of Tiresias.
Odysseus mother comes forward to let him know she died from depression, waiting on his return.

Circe Island
Receives a warning about three obstacles he is about to face

Sirens
The Sirens were beautiful women who lured sailors in by singing to them. Once the men were close enough, they would snatch them and feed on their flesh.

Scylla and Charybdis
Scylla is a six-headed monster who has a row of sharp teeth in each of her heads.
Charybdis is a dangerous whirlpool across from Scylla.

Sun God (Helios)
While sleeping, Odysseus' men go against his orders and eat Helios' cattle. This outrages the god, and he threatens never to rise again. As a punishment, Zeus throws a bolt of lightning at the ship, and turns it to splinters. Only Odysseus survives.

Calypso's Island
Odysseus floated for eight days and on the ninth day, a sea nymph called Calypso found him. She welcomed him with love and kindness. Calypso was very beautiful and she comforted Odysseus and he rested.

The land of Phaeacia
Odysseus sails from Calypso's island to Phaeacia on his raft. He washes up on the shores of Phaeacia and was clothed and fed. Once his identity is revealed, King Alcinous sends him off on one of Phaeacia's magically swift boats.
