Odysseus and his men were brought to the Cicones by a wind that carried west from Ilion that brought him to Ismaros on the far shore. They went and killed the men and the army came and killed some of their men so they left.

LOTUS EATERS

The lotus plant when you eat it makes you forget about home. Some of Odysseus's men ate it making them not want to leave.

CYCLOPS

Odyseeus was curious about the Cyclops and wanted to go see them. Once he lands there they went to Polyfemus' cave. He asks Odysseus his name and he says his name is Nohbody. Polyphemus starts to eat the men and told Odysseus he will eat him last. Odysseus and his men escape by hiding under sheep bellies then stabbing the Cyclops' eyeballs. Once they are on the boat Odysseus tells them his real name and Polyphemus puts a curse on him saying he will have trouble getting home and will lose all his men.

ISLAND OF AEOLUS

Aeolus, god of the winds, gives Odysseus a bag of winds to get him home safely. His crew disobey orders and opens the bag.

LAESTRYGONIANS

They were giant cannibals that destroyed ships and ate others.

ISLAND OF CIRCE

Odysseus soon becomes Circe's lover with all her luxury. They stay with her for a year.

THE LAND OF THE DEAD

He learns his mother had died. His future is told by Teiresias.

Receives a warning about three obstacles he is about to face.

SIRENS

When you hear the sirens they put you into a trance. Odysseus shows selfishness when he lets himself hear it.

SCYLLA AND CHARYBDIS

Scylla is a six headed monster who will take out six of Odysseus' men. Charybdis is a whirlpool in the ocean who swallows ships.

SUN GOD HELIOS

Odysseus' men ate the sun gods cattle and is punished by Zeus who hits them with lightning.

CALYPSO

Calypso held Odysseus captive for seven years of his 10 years journey back to Ithaca.

THE LAND OF THE PHAEACIANS
