At 11 years old, he and his sister were kidnapped for slavery

He was put on a slave ship
He was purchased by a British military officer
3.
BACKGROUND INFO CONTINUED
Equiano served during the Seven Years War
Then he was purchased by a Quaker merchant
He worked for his master and eventually purchased his own freedom
As a free man, Equiano worked as a sailor
His autobiography was published in 1789
4.
FACTS ABOUT EQUIANO
FACT ONE
Children were often captured from his area for slavery
They were taken while they played, and needed lookouts
I think this is disgusting
Children should be able to play and not worry about kidnapping
5.
FACTS ABOUT EQUIANO
FACT TWO
He worked for a widow and her son for a while in Africa
She almost treated him like a son
I think this was a benefit to him in the long run
He was fed and taken care of, which allowed him to stay healthy
6.
FACTS ABOUT EQUIANO
FACT THREE
While he was on the slave ship, he tried to learn
He watched the sailors working the ship to figure things out
This also helped him in the long run
I think it benefitted him in his future as a sailor
7.
FACTS ABOUT EQUIANO
FACT FOUR
He was able to purchase his freedom after working
He was also able to find a job as a sailor
I think he was very lucky to be able to do this
Most slaves didn't get this chance, and they also probably couldn't have found jobs
