OLAUDAH EQUIANO

Born in West Africa, known as Nigeria. 1745-1797

He was an educated slave and when he gained freedom he made an autobiography.

ONLY ELEVEN YEARS OLD

In the slave trade him and his sister were kidnaped by African Raiders.

FACTS

  • 1.Six to seven months him and his sister travelled to the coast
  • but when they arrived they were separated.
  • 2.A British military officer was the first to buy Equiano.
  • 3.The next person to buy him was a Quaker merchant,
  • Equiano managed his business.

FACTS CON.

  • 4. Saved up enough money to buy his freedom in 1766.
  • He settled in England and worked as a musician and barber.

VIEWS ON FACTS

  • 1. It must have been hard to be kidnapped and spend 6 months
  • on a ship with your sibling and then be ripped a part again.
  • 2. The British military officer the first to buy Equiano
  • made him fight in the seven year war.

  • 3. The Quaker merchant couldn't have been that bad,
  • he managed his masters business and saved up money.
  • 4. It was good that he got all the money and then he bought his
  • freedom in 1766, he has been through enough. It was time to get out.

WHY DISCUSS HIM.

  • His autobiography was first great black and popular in US and Europe.
  • The autobiography was published in 1789.

SETTLED IN LONDON EGLAND.

1792 married an English women, Susanna Cullen.
