Who Were The Wampanoag?

  • The Wampanoag Indians were original natives of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It was Wampanoag people who befriended the pilgrims at Plymouth Rock and brought them corn and turkey for the famous first Thanksgiving.

  • The Mayflower was the ship that transported the first English colonist,, from Plymouth to the New World in 1620.
  • There were 102 passengers, and the crew is estimated to have been about 30, but the exact number is unknown.
  • Christopher Jones was the Captain of the 1620 voyage of the Pilgrim ship Mayflower.

Who was squanto?

  • squanto was a Native American of the Patuxet tribe who acted as an interpreter and guide to the Pilgrim settlers at Plymouth during their first winter in the New World.
  • Squanto is a very important character in the book because he is the only one who will talk to the colonist at first

Who was squanto's tribe?

  • Squanto was a member of the Patuxet band of the Wampanoag tribe, which dominated the area in which the colonists eventually settled.as one of 20 Patuxet Indians kidnapped by English explorer Thomas Hunt as the book explains.
