In 2012, the Federal Trade Commission received 10,263 complaints about online romance costing over 105 million dollars world wide.

how it works

  • one will create a fake account on a dating site and will be seeking money
  • some may take it as far and making wedding arrangements 

how to recognize a scam artist.

  • they will want to leave the online site and contact you personally
  • they will claim to "love" you quickly
  • will claim to live in the U.S. but is working overseas or traveling
  • plans to visit, but never shows up

what can you do about it? don't send money for...

  • their travel expenses
  • medical bills
  • hotel emergencies
  • visas
  • cover a financial set back

who to report it to?

  • The Federal Trade Comission
