SOME FACTS ABOUT ONTARIO

• Ontario is named after Lake Ontario
• It was founded 1840
• It joined Canada in 1867
• It is the second largest province in Canada

History
Before the end of the War of 1812, American Immigrants were populating Ontario. There was mainly American and Canadians in Ontario at the time ( and others but mainly American and Canadian)

For the most of the 19th century Irish and U.K. Immigrants came to Ontario. During world war 1 more immigrants came this helped the economy soar. During the First World War as well, major mining discoveries were made.

During the Second World War another European immigration wave came. But in 1965 immigrants from Asia were coming as well. Most of them settled in Toronto.

In the 20th century more blacks came to Ontario due to slavery and racism. But that leads to today, the population still booms due to immigration.
