How oregon got its name

  • Oregon got its name from the Columbia
  • River which used to be called the Oregon
  • River. Its nickname is the Beaver State 
  • because there are so many beavers in
  • Oregon.

Motto

  • Oregon's motto is "She Flies With Her
  • Own Wings," it means that it is a free
  • state. They got this motto when they were
  • trying to decide wether to be loyal to Britian
  • or the U.S. but decided to be independent.

Population

  • As of 2014, Oregon has an overall
  • population of 3,931,816. It is made up
  • mostly of logging workers, power distributors
  • and dispatchers (one job name), and logging
  • equipment operators.

Major cities and U.s. Region

  • Some major cities in Oregon are 
  • Portland, Salem, and Eugene. Oregon
  •   is in the Pacific Northwest region of the
  • U.S. and entered statehood on February
  • 14, 1859.

Geographic Features

  • Some physical features of Oregon are
  • many, many mountains with lots of trees
  • and low, treeless plains. Oregon's highest
  • point is Mt. Hood, rising at 11,239 feet and
  • its lowest point being sea level.

  • Did you know that Oregon's total land area
  • is 98,386 square miles? Crater Lake in Oregon
  •  is the deepest lake in the U.S.! It's 1,943 feet
  • deep! Oregon's Columbia River forms most of
  • the border between Oregon and Washington.

  • Oregon's average high temperature is 62
  • degrees Fahrenheit and its low is about 35
  • degrees Fahrenheit. Oregon's average yearly rainfall
  • is about 120 inches. Oregon's climate is very oceanic
  • in Western Oregon and arid in Eastern Oregon.

natural resources

  • Oregon's natural resources include stilbite,
  • gold, chabazite, and cavansite. Some plants
  • and animals are the Roosevelt elk, the rocky
  • mountain elk, the black tailed deer, the mule
  • deer, the white tailed deer, and beaver.

  • Some trees in Oregon are spruce,
  • hemlock, Douglas fir, white fir, grand
  • fir, and pine.

Government

  • Oregon's governor as of now is John
  • Kitzhaber. Its capital is Salem, a large city in
  • the northwest area of Oregon. It is a big, happy
  • nice city. There are 5 repersentatives and 2 senators
  • of Oregon. Oregon has 7 electoral votes.

WHy I Chose Oregon

  • I chose Oregon because I have never been
  • there and I would like to go there sometime.
  • I learned that Oregon has the deepest lake in
  • the U.S. If I could go to Oregon I would go
  • to Salem.
