Organ Donation

By: Mercedes Garduno

Why is important to donate organs?
~Because you can save up to 8 lives though organ donation and anhace many others through tissue donation, it provides a way of giving the gift of life to patients with terminal failure of vital organs.

BECOMING A DONOR...
~Becoming an organ donator you have the opportunity to be one of the individuals who make this maricles happen.

3 Categories of donation...

  • Nondirected donation; the donor gives an organ to the general pool to be transplanted.
  • Directed donation to a stranger.
  • Directed to the person who you choose to donate.

More than 123,000 people in the United States are currently on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant.

Data provided in support of the concept that clinical organ and tissue transplantation can be more beneficial and life saving if everyone involved in the process, including physicians and medical institutions, respect and consider the best interests of the patients, as well as honor the ethical, moral and religious values of society and are not tempted to seek personal fame or financial rewards.

Ethical Issues...
Organ donation by living donors presents a unique ethical dilemma, in that physicians must risk the life of a healthy person to save or improve the life of a patient.

Unethical Issues...
The most ethically problematic cases are those in which the recipient is chosen on the basis of race, religion, or ethnic group.
