Cell Theory

  • Cells make up all life.
  • Cells split into an exact replica of themselves to make new ones.
  • Cells have homeostasis.

Organelles

Organelles are a specialized part of a cell having some specific function; a cell organ.

Cell Wall

  • The cell wall surrounds the cell membrane.
  • The cell wall is a very tough, flexible and sometimes fairly rigid layer that surrounds some types of cells.

Cell Membrane

  • A cell membrane is like a cell's gatekeeper. It's the outer layer that surrounds a cell, letting substances in — or keeping them out.
  • It controls the movement of substances in and out of cells.
  • The basic function of the cell membrane is to protect the cell from its surroundings.

Vacuoles

  • Vacuoles act like the brain of a cell.
  • All plant and animal cells have vacuoles.
  • Vacuoles are much larger in plant cells.

Cytoplasm

  • Cytoplasm is the fluid that fills a cell.
  • Scientists used to call the fluid protoplasm.

Nucleus

  • Nucleus acts like the brain of the cell.
  • It helps control eating, movement, and reproduction.

Chloroplasts

Chloroplasts help make food for the cell.
