CHARACTERISTICS

  • Scientific name is Pentalagus Furness
  • Large snout
  • Unusually long claws used for digging holes for nests
  • Thick and woolly fur
  • Eyes very small and ears are short

PREDATORS AND PREY

  • Diet is plants, acorns, bamboo sprouts, and bark
  • Predators are feral dogs, feral cats, and humans
  • Amami Rabbits are thought to eat grass or ferns
  • The mongoose is also a predator that is an invasive species

HABITAT AND COMMUNICATION

  • Communicate through a clicking sound
  • Prefer dense forests
  • See forests as protection
