  • Born on July 16, 1907, on a farm in Brazil, Indiana
  • Started popping corn at 12 years of age
  • 1928: Redenbacher earned his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Purdue University

Redenbacher's evolution

  • 1944: he began to raise popcorn for the supermarket trade
  • 1965: Orville and his business partner Charles Bowman perfect their popcorn with a 44:1 ratio in popped kernels
  • 1974: Their first commercial on TV
  • 1989: Their first microwave popcorn
  • 1990: ConAgra Foods buys the Orville Redenbacher’s brand

major accomplishments

  • Brazil, Indiana of Clay County has an Annual Popcorn Festival in his honor
  • At Purdue University he made a scholarship for incoming students
  • #1 popcorn in the world today because of his exclusive hybrids that pop lighter and fluffier popcorn

  • As an innovator, Redenbacher thought of the best way to pop popcorn
  • As a sparkplug, he gave all his energy and attention since he was 12
  • Redenbacher had ambition, perseverance, and was self-confident
  • He was motivated his whole life, didn't give up, and believed in himself 
  • Orville achieved these roles and characteristics for 71 years of his life
