OSTEOMYELITIS

IS BONE INFLAMMATION CAUSED BY PATHOGENIC ORGANISMS

CAUSES

  • Bacteria may spread to a bone from infected skin, muscles, or tendons next to the bone.
  • May occur under skin sore.
  • The bacteria can travel through the blood and spread
  • This can also occur after bone surgery.

SYMPTOMS

  • Swelling of the ankles, feet, and legs, uneasiness
  • Bone pain, sweating, fever, chills, general discomfort
  • Local swelling, redness, warmth pain at site of infection

PREVENTION

  • Keep things clean!
  • Keep cuts clean
  • If you have diabetes watch your feet, if any sign of infection call a doctor.
  • The sooner you treat it the better!!

TREATMENT

  • The goal is to rid of the disease.
  • You will be given antibiotics, possibly more than one.
  • Surgery may be needed to expel of the dead bone tissue.
