PRESENTATION OUTLINE

OUR CHANGING EARTH

BY RONDA SLOAN AND LEASA JACOBSON

Most of the solid part of the earth is made of great masses of rock. The small rocks we collect are just pieces that broke off from the huge masses. The earth we live on is changing all the time.

At the center of our earth is a solid inner core of metallic rock.

Surrounding the inner core is the outer core. This layer is made of melted metals.

The mantle is just below the crust and is a semi liquid layer of melted rock called magma.

The outer layer of the earth is called the crust. It is made of rock covered by a thin layer of soil.

There are two types of crust: Continental Crust and Oceanic Crust.

Continental crust is the part of the earth's crust that contains the continents.

The oceanic crust is found under the ocean.

The earth we live on is changing all the time.

The crust is broken up into pieces that are attached to a small top layer of the mantle. These chunks of crust are called plates and they float on top of the semi-liquid mantle.

This results in the movement of continents around the world, pushes up volcanoes and causes earthquakes to happen.
