MID EAST GEO FEATURES

ROSS MOSIER

JORDAN RIVER

  • 251 Km long
  • Lies in between Israel and Jordan
  • Important resource to dry lands
  • Flows into Dead Sea

BLACK SEA

  • Bounded by Europe, Anatolia, and the Caucasus.
  • Covers an area of 436,400 km2.
  • Constrained by the Pontic and Caucasus Mountains.
  • Receives river water from large Eurasian Fluvial systems.

ELBURZ MOUNTAINS

  • Stretches from borders of Azerbaijan to Armenia to Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
  • Highest mountain in West Asia is located in the mountain range.
  • Due to its snowy winters there are several ski resorts in the mountain range.
  • In northern slopes there are lush mixed forests.

BAHRAIN

  • 55km long by 18 km wide
  • Oil found on Bahrain in 1932
  • Climate is hot and dry during the summer
  • Little to no rainfall during winter.
  • Recorded maximum of 2.83 inches of rainfall.

TIGRIS RIVER

  • One of two great rivers that define Mesopotamia.
  • 1,850 km long
  • Unites with Euphrates River near Basra.
  • Flows 400 km through Turkey

PONTIC MOUNTAINS

  • Range runs east to west
  • Highest peak is 3,937 m high
  • The north Anatolian fault and the north east Anatolian fault run along the range.
  • He mountains are generally covered by dense forest.
