• Both are in a crash or sink in a vehicle .
• Both have to survive in the wilderness by water( Emily is in water )
• They are both alone but discover someone on the way
• Vague connection : they both are rescued in an odd way
• Brian is rescued by a pilot and is kind of confused but Emily is rescued by a boat when she falls asleep on an island

SETTING

• Time period: 1990-2005
• Indonesia ferry disaster (mostly in the ocean)
• An impacts the story is that she meets a friend named Isman and that makes her encouraged to continue.

MAIN CHARACTERS

• Emily
• Forced to move to Sumatra with her parents to work at the hospital with them.
• She tries to leave on her own but the ferry ends up sinking.
• She tries to save not only herself but her new friend.
• Round , the protagonist ,and the dynamic character in the story because she becomes stronger than in the beginning.
