PRESENTATION OUTLINE

OVERPOPULATION OF ANIMALS.

ONE ANIMAL CAN EFFECT THE REST OF THE TOWN.

Reasons for overpopulation

  • Overpopulation occurs when a population of a species exceeds the carrying capacity of its ecological niche.
  • Irresponsible Breeding
  • Choosing Not to Adopt
  • Abandoning pets

SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET

  • Always spay/neuter your animal
  • Both procedures can safely be performed at as early as 8 weeks of age.
  • Spayed or neutered pets are typically better behaved, calmer, and more affectionate
  • Spaying an animal eliminates their heat cycle and the undesirable elements such as bleeding, crying, etc
  • Fixed pets are less prone to a variety of diseases

ADOPT AN ANIMAL

  • Adoption saves lives
  • Adoption gives a second chance
  • Adoption often costs less

CHOOSE A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER

  • A frightened mother dog can transmit her fears to her pups.
  • The animal may have diseases from its living standards
  • The breeder may have no idea what they're doing
  • Adult animals are continuously bred until they can no longer produce, then destroyed or discarded.

WHY ITS A PROBLEM.

  • Many animals will die from starvation
  • Animals will wander into unnatural habitats for food
  • diseases may also spread to other populations of animals that are not overpopulated

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU SEE AN ABANDONED ANIMAL

  • If you are able to transport the animal, take her to the nearest animal shelter
  • Take it to the vet to get checked out.
  • Check if for a microchip to find the owners.
  • Take it home, make found animal poster.
