TUNISIA

TUNSIA

  • The Arab Spring began with Tunisia in 18 Dec. 2010
  • The revolution was quick & mostly bloodless
  • Result: Zine Alabdine flew into exile to Saudi-Arabia on 11 Feb 2011

EGYPT

EGYPT

  • Egypt's spring flared on 25 Jan 2011
  • Unlike Tunisia it was more agressive and violent
  • Lasted 18 days
  • Result: Government overthrown on 11 February 2011.
  • Hosni Mubarak resigned & was convicted to life time prison

YEMEN

YEMEN

  • Began on 27 Jan 2011, protestors from all Yemen (North/South)
  • Clashes happened between protestors and government advocates
  • Assasination attempt on Ali Abdullah Saleh on 3rd June 2011
  • Government overthrown on 27 Feb 2012

LIBYA

LIBYA

  • Anti-government protests began 15 Feb 2011
  • After opposition controlled Benghazi, it turned into a civil war
  • On 17 March US & EU intervened in Libya against Gaddafi
  • With a death toll over 30,000 and 6 months of war, the government was overthrown
  • Gaddafi was killed by rebel forces

SYRIA

SYRIA

  • On 15 March 2011 thousands gathered in Damascus, Aleppo, Darra & homes
  • Reported the next day approx. 3000 were arrested
  • On July 29 Free Syrian Army was formed
  • July 31 Assad's army tanks stormed several cities and killed many people
  • The Civil war is still ongoing
