PRESENTATION OUTLINE

OWLS ARE NOCTURNAL, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE ACTIVE ONLY AT NIGHT

THEY ARE EXPERTS AT CATCHING PREY BECAUSE OF:

  • Their eyes
  • Their talons
  • Their fringed feathers

OWLS HAVE BIG EYES SO THEY CAN LET IN MORE LIGHT, AND SEE AT NIGHT.

Owls have many rods in their eyes, but limited cones. Because of this they cannot see color or move their eyes. To compensate, they can turn their heads 270 degrees.

Owls are binaural, witch means their ears are at different levels. They can hear in three dimensions.

AN OWLS CLAWS ARE CALLED 'TALONS'.

THE FEATHERS ON THE OWLS' LEGS PROTECT THEM FROM BITES.

OWLS FLY SILENTLY BECAUSE OF FRINGED FEATHERS.

OWLS CAN SWALLOW PREY WHOLE BY 3 WEEKS.

An owl pellet is the fur and bones the owl cannot digest.

BARN OWLS FEED ON PRIMARILY RATS.

Owls don't lay their eggs at the same time because it lightens the food burden.

It is important for owlets to leave the nest because the food is depleted and owls are territorial.

OWLS CAN LIVE UP TO 20 YEARS.
