PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR

WILLIAM O'Neill

What's a 3 phase induction motor?

ADVANTAGES

  • Can change direction of the shaft
  • Smooth acceleration under heavy load
  • No excessive heating during starting
  • Adjustable speed control
  • Self starting
  • Little maintenance

DISADVANTAGE

  • poor starting torque
  • speed control of induction motors are difficult
  • light load conditions they operate at very worst power factor (0.2 to 0.4 lagging)

There are two parts of a three phase motor
The Rotor
and
The stator

HOW DOES THREE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR WORK?

  • Magnetic power

WHAT IS SELF STARTING

  • No external force

THERE ARE THREE MAIN PARTS OF THE STATOR

  • Stator frame
  • Stator core
  • Stator winding or field winding.
