PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ALBINISM

  • Also called achromasia
  • A group of inherited disorders characterized by little or no melanin
  • This disease or mutation really doesnt have much to do with the skin as many people think

CHROMOSOMES

  • There are many chromosomes involved with albinism not one gene is involved
  • The one chromosome that is named is called Melanocytes and there is no exact number

EFFECTS ON PERSON

  • Rapid involuntary movement
  • Lazy eye
  • Underdeveloped nerve in eye
  • Sensitivity in vision

TREATMENTS

  • Sunscreen
  • Protective clothing
  • Corrrective lenses

TESTS

  • To find out if a fetus in a mother's womb will have albinism there is a needle placed into the uterus to draw out fluid which is called Amniocentesis
  • CVS chorionic vilous sampling is anither way of testing

LIFE EXPECTANCY

  • Albinism doesnt usually affect the life span of someone who has it

INHERITANCE PATTERN

  • The pattern is known as Autosomal Recessive
  • Which means both copies of the gene in cell have mutations
