Steve Jobs

Childhood & Personal Life

Background & Personal life:
Steve Jobs was born February 24, of 1955. He grew up in San Francisco, California and was a very active and curious child. When he was about two years old, his parents, Paul and Clara, had adopted him and his sister, Patty. Shorty after this, the family then moved to Mountain View, CA, which is about 30 miles south of San Francisco. Even as a child, Jobs enjoyed reading, swimming and building things which included electronics. He idolized his father from a young age and would create new inventions in their garage with him. Him and his father would take apart electronics, like radios, and put them back together to see how each little part contributed to how it worked. Steve Jobs mentioned in an article that his father taught him how to be a perfectionist, which made his father have a significant impact on his life and making him one of his biggest role models. His family had influenced the way we viewed the world. Growing up, he didn’t come from a very wealthy family, which made him work even harder for the things he wanted in life.
When Job’s grew older, he liked to keep his personal life very private. He had three children: Reed, Erin and Eve. He was married to Laurene Powell Jobs

Teenage Years

As a teenager, Jobs got a summer job at an electronics company. He then decided to join an electronics club at school which was called the “wireheads”. Jobs was very intelligent student, yet he struggled with staying focused and would oftentimes get very easily bored in the classroom. This was because he claimed that he wasn’t learning anything he didn't already know, and knew everything that the teacher was going over in class. Because of his boredom, Jobs would play pranks on his classmates instead of doing school work, eventually leading to multiple suspensions within his school life and a disregard for the rules.

College & Life after high school

After high school, Jobs attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon for two years ( 1972-1974 ). At college, he joined an English course where he studied Shakespeare, dance and calligraphy. After two years of college, Jobs then decided to drop out and travel through India in 1974 where he studied Zen Buddhism and learned more about the culture. After seven months of living in India, he returned back to the U.S. with a shaven head and a strong faith in Buddhism. He then returned to his family home and doing normal daily activities.

Creation of Apple

One day, Jobs and his friend were messing around with electronics in his garage. They soon began to make a computer. Jobs and his friend then decided to try and create an electronics company. With very little money, it seemed impossible. However, they were both eager to be successful in their new creations, so Jobs had ended up selling his Volkswagen Bus and his friend selling his scientific calculator in order to raise enough money for their company. The funds would then contribute to equipment and tools in order to make the computers. Their first computer went on sale in July of 1976 and was priced at $666. They would sell around 175 units in 10 months. However they then created the Macintosh in 1984, and was Apple’s first mass-market personal computer. It included a graphical user interface and was built with a 9in. screen, keyboard and a mouse that sold for $2,495. Another great success for Apple, was the iPod that was released in October of 2001. About three years later, the iPod then started to become more popular. About 100 million of these iPods were sold by April of 2007.

Other successes

Not only was Steve Jobs successful in creating the company of Apple, he also had many more successes. He created the iTunes store which made it easier for his customers to download music instead of buying CD’s or illegally downloading them onto their devices. Steve Jobs is also known for his computer and animation skills. He put these skills to use by funding $50 million into the company of Pixar Animation Studios in 1986. His investment helped produce many well-known movies today such as “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo,” and “The Incredibles”. After the company began to do well, he then decided to hand it over to Walt Disney.

However, in 2003, Jobs wasn’t feeling too well and had decided to go to the doctor’s to check for kidney stones. They made him get a Ct Scan, and while looking over the results, the doctors saw a “shadow” on his pancreas. The doctors then did further examinations on him and came to the conclusion that he had a rare form of pancreatic cancer. His doctors explained to him that his cancer was a specific tumor that was a part of the 5% that grow slowly and are most likely to be cured. Like most doctors do, Jobs had received a number of ways to treat and help his cancer, like surgeries and such. However, Jobs surprisingly declined the surgery and went with an alternative option that included other medicines and dietary treatments. Job’s had claimed that he didn’t want his body to be opened up, and he didn’t want to be violated in that way. After years of dealing with his cancer, Jobs then passed away on October 5, of 2011.
