  • Battle between good and evil- fellowship of the ring vs Sauron/ Gandalf vs Saruman
  • The initiates- Merry & Pippin join Frodo along the way and although they are helpful to him in the beginning they require training and experience to help him later down the road.

Untitled Slide

  • Heaven vs Hell- the Shire is shown as a beautiful grove where nothing bad ever occurs whereas the area around the volcano is a desolate flaming wasteland guarded by an army of goblins
  • The Devil figure- Represented as a massive flaming eye Sauron is a figure of pure evil who wants nothing more than to destroy and conquer middle earth

Untitled Slide

  • The creature of Nightmare- gollum a demented creature that was once a hobbit tries to take back the ring from Frodo, ends up biting off Frodo's finger
  • Supernatural intervention- Gandlaf dies fighting an evil creatures but is brought back to life by an unknown force so he can continue on

Untitled Slide

  • Loyal retainers- Samwise is the very definition of loyalty, traveling through hell and back Samwise supports Frodo in every situation often saving him from peril at the risk of his own life
  • The journey- Frodo is brought from his comfortable home and travels through evil woods, faces giant spiders and goblins, faces his darkest fears and passes trials that test who he is all to destroy a ring and return home (three movies worth of traveling for fifteen minutes of completing the final goal. . . Anticlimactic much?)
