Galaxies

  • A galaxy is a structure of millions or billions of stars, gas, and dust, They are held together by gravitational pull.

Spiral Galaxies

  • A spiral galaxy is spinning stars, dust, and many young stars.
  • In the middle of the spiral galaxy is a clump of material.
  • It looks as though there are many stems coming out from the middle in a spiral.

Elliptical Galaxies

  • An elliptical galaxy is in the shape of an oval.
  • They are usually a red or yellow color, with mainly old stars.
  • Unlike the spiral galaxy, there isn't much gas or dust.

Irregular Galaxies

  • An irregular galaxy is a galaxy that does not fit under either the spiral or elliptical galaxy types.
  • It can be called deformed either from the pull of other galaxies or by running into other galaxies.

Dwarf Galaxies

  • Dwarf Galaxies are very small galaxies.
  • They are usually near or by large galaxies.
  • Sometimes, they will merge into other galaxies.

Dwarf Galaxies

  • Dwarf Galaxies are very small galaxies.
  • They are usually near or by large galaxies.
  • Sometimes, they will merge into other galaxies.

Milky Way Galaxy

  • The Milky Way Galaxy is a Spiral Galaxy.
  • This is the galaxy that we live in, when we look at the stars from Earth they are all part of the Milky Way Galaxy
  • Some astronomers believe that in the middle of the Milky Way, there's a giant black hole.
