My personal beliefs

  • Digital citizenship is especially important in our world today.
  • We all have responsibilities and rights that allow us to communicate safely and appropriately in the digital world.
  • The digital world is constantly evolving and growing and we must grow with it if we want to be the most effective and impactful communicators and educators.

Education has shaped my views

  • Growing up, both my parents and my teachers taught me the dangers of the internet.
  • In high school and college, I learned how to identify credible sources.
  • Now more than ever, I use technology in my education to help me communicate, buy/read books, make presentation, complete homework, etc.

Personal Experience has shaped my views

  • When I was young, I used AOL instant messenger to talk to my friends.
  • One day, I got message from a person who I didn't know and they were asking me personal questions.
  • My parents saw this and gave me a lecture on how and why it's extremely dangerous to respond to strangers.
  • From then on, I knew the importance of digital security.
  • I also learned not to put any personal information about myself that would help a predator identify who I was or where I lived.

Personal Experience has shaped my views cont

  • From then on, I knew the importance of digital security.
  • I also learned not to put any personal information about myself that would help a predator identify who I was or where I lived.
  • I also knew to only respond to people I knew and to always verify that they are who they say there are.

Work experience has shaped my views

  • Because I work in digital advertising and marketing, I have learned a lot about the power of the internet.
  • Anything we do or say on the internet can be seen or traced by anyone for essentially, forever.
  • We need to make sure that we are making smart and responsible decisions so that we have a clean digital footprint.

Digital literacy

  • Digtial literacy is extremely important in the world of education
  • Teachers must incorporate and use many types of digital platform in their classroom to create digitally literate students

I will teach students:

  • How to become independent on many types of platforms
  • Digital etiquette - what is and what is not appropriate in the digital world.
  • Their digital rights and responsibilities like free speech and their rights to privacy.
  • The importance of protecting their personal information when using the internet.

To keep students safe I will:

  • Have them work on platforms that I have access to see at anytime to monitor what they are doing and who they are talking to.
  • Be mindful and alert when students are working with different platforms.
  • Walk around, talk with students as they are working, help them native through platforms.

To keep students safe I will:

  • Always communicate the importance of being good digital citizens!
  • Keep the conversation going with students about what that means and looks like.
  • Model good digital citizenship when communicating with students using technology to assess projects, teach a lesson, etc.
