PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SARAH "TABITHA" BABBITT

BORN DEC. 1779 - DIED NOV. 1853

CIRCULAR SAW

  • She invented the 1st circular saw 1813, because she thought that the use of a two-men whipsaw took too much strength from men.
  • The circular saw with a pedal cut down wood with much more ease in half the time and less man power than it took with hand-held saw. It allowed buildings to be built faster.

DOUBLE HEAD SPINNING WHEEL

  • She also improved the spinning wheel head, used to make thread, with a double spinning head allowing women spinning twice as much thread in a short time.

PROCESS OF CUT NAILS

  • Tabatha assisted in the invention of cutting multiple nails from a iron sheet instead of forging each nail individually.

CONTRIBUTION TO INVENTION OF FALSE TEETH

  • It is believed that she was in the middle of her invention of manufacturing false teeth at the time of her death.
