No Description

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Trimethylaminuria

BY RHUKE

STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF DNA

  • "Genetic information is carried in the linear sequence of nucleotides in DNA. Each molecule of DNA is a double helix formed from two complementary strands of nucleotides held together by hydrogen bonds between G-C and A-T base pairs."

SYMPTOMS

  • Nasty odor - usually smells like fish, eggs, or urine
  • Usually worse when stressed
  • Can cause social and psychological problems
  • Liver failure
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Severe depression

Trimethylaminuria is inherited, and is received when both parents have a missing FMO3 gene. Valine is turned into Leucine

TREATMENT

  • Avoid foods containing trimethylamine
  • Low dose of antibiotics can lesson the smell
  • Screening at birth is available

Babies should be screened at birth for this disease so that they can start treatment early.

GENETIC PROFILING

  • Genetic profiling for this desease won't effect any job opportunities or other life things.
