Robert Hayden was born in August 4, 1913 in Detroit Michigan. Although Paradise Valley is where he grew up and passed away in February 25, 1980 in AnnArbor Michigan.

Hayden had a emotionally tumultuous childhood and was shuttled between his family house and a foster house next door. His Impaired vision he was unable to participate in sports but could read.

Robert graduated from high school in 1932 and then attended Detroit City Collage with the help of a scholarship. Later went to Wayne State University and enrolled in a graduate English Literate program at the University of Michigan.

Robert Hayden's first poem was Heart-Shape in The Dust. Some other ones are Angle of Ascents, Collected Poems, American Journal.

Robert Hayden won a couple awards. He has won The Grand Prize (1966), Academy of American Poets Fellowship (1976) and United States Laureate.
