My essential question: Why does having respect for all improve psychological health? Was sprouted from the text, To Kill a Mockingbird. I chose this essential question because Harper Lee analyzes the ideas or acceptance and respect for all human beings with her character, Atticus. Atticus is a man who works in the courthouse and makes the decision to defend anyone in need of his help.

“Consequences of workplace bullying with respect to the well-being of its targets and the observers of bullying”
by Vartia MA-L

The article i selected to answer my essential question was a study done on bullying in the workplace. I think this is a unique choice because the article supported itself with evidence from the tested experiments.

This article analyzed data gained through an experiment conducted on employees in the workplace. “It has also been shown that the negative health effects of bullying do not disappear immediately when the negative behavior has stopped” (VARTIA 64). This quote further answers my essential question because, as this quote addresses, the effects of the lack of respect for a person can linger and haunt a person forever.

“The relationship between bullying and health has, however, been reported to be moderated (eg, by the victim’s self-esteem, social support, and lack of social anxiety)” (VARTIA 64). This quote is explaining how mental health can rely on how other people treat you. For example, someone who is constantly rude and disrespectful in their actions toward you is not helping the health of your mentality. Thus, having respect for others can have major impacts on their psychological health.
