In America people have suffered for a very long time, and now they thought they should change the government. The king of England has done many bad things to them - here is a list:

WHAT ARE THEY COMPLAINING ABOUT?

  • He won't let us pass laws we need for everybody's good.
  • Even when we pass laws, he won't sign them so they can go into effect.
  • He sends lots of English soldiers and makes us let them live in our houses.
  • He makes us pay all kinds of taxes without asking us about it.
  • He won't let us buy and sell things wherever, only buy goods from England.

British Wrongs Americans should not change their government without a good reason, so people usually suffer as long as they can under the government they have, rather than change it. When there has been a lot of problems for a long time, it is their right and their duty to throw off the government, and to set up a better government.

When the Americans asked the king to stop, but he just kept on doing horrible things. They have tried to talk to the other people who live in England. The Americans asked them to stop these crimes against us, but they have acted as if they were deaf. So they had to separate from England, and they will be the Americans enemies during the war, though they hope they'll be our friends when there is peace.
