BIOGRAPHY

  • Born George Gordon in London, Jan 22, 1788
  • He was born with a clubbed right foot
  • His father left his mother before George was even born

  • Byron is regarded as one of the greatest British poets
  • He is known for his brilliant use of the English language
  • He is also known for his amorous lifestyle

BIOGRAPHY

  • He was known to be very flamboyant
  • One of the most famous/fashionable poets of the day

CAREER

  • Over his career Lord Bryon wrote at least 300 poems
  • Some of his most famous poems were "Don Juan",
  • And "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage"

DON JUAN

  • Published in 1819
  • Probably Byron's most famous/best-selling work
  • An epic, around 16,000 lines

DON JUAN

  • A "Don Juan" is usually known as a womanizer
  • In the poem however, the role is reversed,
  • Women go after Don, instead of the other way around

  • Big commercial success for Byron
  • Released in a series of cantos, like episodes
  • The last of which was released in 1824

CHILDE HAROLD'S PILGRAMAGE

  • Published in 1812
  • Split into 4 cantos
  • The last canto was published in 1818

CHILDE HARLOD'S PILGRIMAGE

  • Very similar to Byron's life, almost autobiographical
  • It is about the life of a man who has adventures throughout Europe
  • When published, Byron gained respect in the literary community

DEATH

  • Lord Byron died from an illness in 1824, in Greece
  • He was bled with leeches before he died,which may have caused an infection
  • He remains one of the greatest poets in the English language to this day
