VARIABLES

THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLE IS

The materials

  • Toothpicks
  • Liquid glue
  • Graph paper
  • Bungee cord
  • Poster board
  • Sealing wrap
  • Bucket
  • Weights
  • Scale
  • Bridge templates
  • Two tables

PROCEDURES

  • Gather materiasl
  • Draw bridge on graph paper
  • Glue graph onto poster board
  • Place sealing wrap over graph
  • Glue toothpicks together using graph paper as a guide
  • Let the glue dry for 10-15 minutes
  • Take off the bridge in one piece
  • Repeat steps 5-7
  • Make a bottom design with the toothpicks and connect the 2 sides
  • Make a top design or pinch the sides together

CONTINUED PROCEDURES....

  • Attach bungee cord to the bottom of the bridge
  • Place the end of the bridge onto one table and the other end onto the other table. Let the bungee cord hang down
  • Attach a bucket to the bungee cord
  • Place weights and other heavy items into the bucket until the bridge breaks
  • After the bridge breaks take the bucket of items and put it on a scale.
  • Then you see what bridge held the most weight
