LOWER CLASS

  • Ate grains and rice
  • Rough hem clothing and sandals.
  • Wanted more resources.
  • Poor harvest, high taxes couldn't pay debts.
  • Horrible working conditions

UPPER CLASS

  • Ate pork fish and fine wines
  • Fine silk garments, leather shoes.
  • Owned large estates
  • Implemented horrible working conditions for the workers.

LAND DISTRIBUTION

  • Owners of large estates would take over property of the less fortunate and and start employing cheap labor
  • People with less or no land began reveling because they believed it was unfair.
  • Land owners treated the workers poorly
  • Large amounts of bandits
  • Poor individuals would sell their land in return for a debt cancellation.

EFFECTS

  • Yellow Turban Uprising: revolt due to problems of land distribution
  • Bandit attacks due to people not having enough resources
  • Workers revolting due to horrible treatment.
  • Factions at court paralyzed the central government Han empire dissolved
  • China was divided into regional kingdoms
