  • For an ionic compound: it is the formula unit ( made of ions ).
  • For an element: it is the atom

  • You can measure mass or volume or you can count pieces
  • We measure mass in grams
  • We measure volume in frams
  • We sount pieces in MOLFS

Stoichiometry

  • The calculation of quantities in chemical reactions is based on balanced equations
  • Balanced equations can be used to determine how much of one substance would be needed or produced from another substance in the equation

  • They are difficult to weight or mass
  • Temperature and pressure

Standard Temperature & Pressure

  • abbreviated " STP "
  • At STP 1 mole of any gas occupies 22.4L
  • 1 mole = 22.4L of any gas at STP
