WHAT IS IT?
- Grunge is a sub genre off of alternative rock
- "The term grunge first surfaced in Seattle, Washington around the late 1980s as a bridge between mainstream 1980s heavy metal–hard rock and postpunk alternative rock" --grunge music, brittanica
WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE
- Coarse, Grainy, Throaty voices
- Dark, blunt, and honest lyrics about the youths problems
- Loud music
- Lyrics filled with feelings of hatred, anger, greif, etc.
- Very popular in the late 80s-90s eras for promoting rebellious behavior.

KURT COBAIN
- 1967-1994
- Lead singer/guitarist in the band Nirvana
- Most famous for coarse, grainy voice and when he sang, would sing with great hatred/grief
- Had a daughter named Frances Bean Cobain with Courtney Love, a fellow grunge rocker
- Better known for the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
- Personality traits: rebellious, moody, interesting, weird etc
Band members include: Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl
NICKELBACK
- Formed in 1995 in Hanna Alberta Canada but has since relocated to Vancouver
- Named after a player that worked at Starbucks and would say "here's your nickel back"
- Their most famous song is "Far Away" (All the Right Reasons)
- Better known for the song "Rockstar"
- Also known for being a very despised band for mixed reasons, it is believed that they are far too Canadian to be a grunge/alt rock band
The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair

GREEN DAY
- Formed in 1886 by Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist mike durnt
- Best known for the song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams " (I Walk Alone)
- When they first began they came off as arrogant little twenty-something brats
- All though they are not a grunge band, they still are known for being the punk revivalists
- Band members include: Tre' Cool, Mike Durnt, and Billie Joe Armstrong
