PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Balancing Internal Thoughts With External Action
Why is this important? Because it gives the readers what the character is doing as well as his reasons. Without it, we would only know what he does or why he does it, not both.
As you can see, the green highlight shows where external thoughts are located and the blue highlight shows where internal thoughts are.
Here is another example where I illustrate this.
Why is this important? Because when you are predictable, a reader can tell what the ending of the story will be - making them stop reading your book even before they finish.
As you can see, although it looked like I was going to stay and help the falling snowboarder, in the end, I just ran away from him.
Why is this important? Because the reader will most likely read to the end of your story if it has something, like a conflict, that invokes wonder in the reader and draws him into the story.
The conflict in my story is that someone is skidding down the mountain and I am the only one that can help him.
