BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Born on 287 BC. in Syracuse, Italy.
Died on 212 BC. in Syracuse, Italy.
Archimedes was the son of an astronomer named Phidias.
Archimedes might of had royal blood because there was a chance that he was related to King Hieron.
Archimedes studied in Alexandria at a school established by Euclid.
Archimedes' death was an accident and wasn't by intention.

WHAT HE RESEARCHED/STUDIED
Archimedes did a lot of studying on the aspects of the lever and pully.
One of Archimedes' main studies was on how to find the volume of certain figures.
Archimedes spent a lot of time on figuring out how much silver was in a gold crown.
Archimedes also studied geometry.
Some other things that Archimedes did a lot of studying in, was mechanics and hydrostatics.

WHAT HE IS FAMOUS FOR
Archimedes is famous for inventing the water screw.
Archimedes is also famous for inventing a miniature planetarium of space and the planets.
One of his greatest inventions was figuring the area and volume of a cylinder and a sphere.
Another one of his great inventions is determining the length of a year and the distances of planets.
Archimedes also invented an important concept of physics, which is the center of gravity.

Archimedes would sometimes take fame for inventions that he didn't have any work on.
Many medieval Islam mathematicians were inspired to improve on Archimedes' work.
Archimedes' first works were carried of from the people he worked with.
Archimedes was also known as an outstanding astronomer.
Archimedes is also known as the man that ran down the street naked when he got his idea.
