MARRIAGE RITUALS IN CHINA (221 BC-206 BC aND 1644-1911)
- The importance of getting married was far greater than the importance of falling in love.
- For males, marriage determined the prosperity and future of him family, while for girls, it just meant she wouldn't see her family for a while.
- Only after matchmakers spoke and the families agreed could the man and woman be married.
PERSONAL OPINION
- We all think that it's weird that marriage in general is more important than love since that is not how it is in America.

- Betrothal letter,
- Gift letter with gift list,
- And wedding letter (vows)
AS WEALTH AND SOCIAL STATUS WERE VERY IMPORTANT,

- Proposing- matchmaker goes and if it's a success, s/he gets showered with gifts
- Birthday Matching- groom goes to fortune teller who says whether or not the birthdays are good together
- Betrothal Gifts- if marriage is probable, matchmaker gives gifts to girl's parents saying "yes marriage"
SIX ETIQUETTES CONTINUED
- Presenting Wedding Gifts- the groom's parents give gifts to the girl's parents, showing they have wealth and will take good care of her
- Wedding Date- fortune teller returns and says a date which is fortuitous
- Wedding Ceremony- bride and groom wear red, and the girl has to cry with her mom saying she's sad to leave home. After that, the couple retreats to bridal chamber and guests drink wine.
