Case 74

Reasonable Suspicion

Reasonable Suspicion

  • Monty, a BCBA, has reasonable suspicion that one of the learners he works with may be the victim of child abuse. Upon receiving this information, he immediately contacts Child Protective Services and completes the necessary steps in filing a child abuse report. About 1 week later, Monty receives an irate phone call from the learner's parents. While they do not know for sure that Monty filed the abuse report, they believe he was the one who made the call. The parents stated they were never told their information could be shared with others for any reason and believed their identities would be protected under any circumstance.
