It started when British officer Thomas Gage decided to go to Concord and take the minutemen's weapons on April 1775.
On the evening of April 18, 1775, a spy brought the news to Paul Revere and William Dawes. They got on their horses and warned everyone the British were coming.
The next morning, the colonists were ready. Less than 70 Minutemen gathered at Lexington's village green, where they met a much larger force of British troops.
The colonial commander shouted to not fire unless fired upon. Then someone fired. This is known as the shot heard around the world. It was the start of the American Revolution.
WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARED, THE COLONISTS HAD 8 DEAD AND 10 WOUNDED.
The British marched back to Concord to find most the weapons taken by the minutemen. In anger, they set fire to a few homes.
The British retreated to Boston with the militia men shooting behind them.
By the time the British had reached Boston, they'd suffered 250 casualties.
News of the battle of Lexington and Concord spread, and people became very angry.
