PRESENTATION OUTLINE
A LEADER IS ONE WHO KNOWS THE WAY, GOES THE WAY, AND SHOWS THE WAY.
~JOHN C. MAXWELL
To be a great leader you must follow these three steps. A leader must understand how the band runs through their experiences. In my case this is three years. Then a leader must follow the rules and standards set before them, as I always strive to do. Finally, a leader must make following the rules look appealing and necessary to show the way for the rest of their section. Which is precisely what I plan to do.
THE QUALITY OF A LEADER IS REFLECTED IN THE STANDARDS THEY SET FOR THEMSELVES.
~RAY KROC
I have always set high standards for myself in everything that I do. Marching band is no different. I have been working to improve my marching, playing, and techniques through each season and it shows. I have grown through the years to become a great contributor and I do not intend to stop the growth for myself, or my section.
IF YOU ARE A LEADER, YOU SHOULD NEVER FORGET THAT EVERYONE NEEDS ENCOURAGEMENT. AND EVERYONE WHO RECEIVES IT-YOUNG OR OLD, SUCCESSFUL OR LESS-THAN-SUCCESSFUL, UNKNOWN OR FAMOUS-IS CHANGED BY IT.
~JOHN C. MAXWELL
I understand the need for balance between strictness and compassion. If you are too strict, then people begin to hate you and marching band by extension. If you are too relaxed, then people walk all over you. I intend to make sure that the flutes are respectful and hard-working, but enjoying themselves at the same time so that it is an enjoyable experience that everyone wants to repeat.
A LEADER IS BEST WHEN PEOPLE BARELY KNOW HE EXISTS, WHEN HIS WORK IS DONE, HIS AIM FULFILLED, THEY WILL SAY: WE DID IT OURSELVES.
~LAO TZU
I don't want to be a leader who is a control freak or micromanages the section. My goal is to help each individual reach their potential and to be proud of what they have accomplished.
I hope to be the next flute section leader so that I can make the flute section the best section in the band. Thank you for your consideration.
